Well Made and Affordable Yari Ganna

I purchased this plane after spending the better part of 2 years looking at and researching the use of the Yari Ganna. This plane is by far the most affordable one I have been able to find.

Flattening the Ura and sharpening was a really easy and straight forward process. By far the easiest I have experienced outside of the tools made by Mr. Tasai.

Due to a lack of readily available information on Yari Ganna in English, I did experience some buyers remorse initially. The blade came with a very flat angle that made it impossible to use on any boards larger then my hands width, and the flat blade constantly cut into my work. With what little I actually know about Japanese carpentry I figured there was a way to tune or adjust the blade that I did not know.

Having broken a Kirdashi and a Chisel by tapping them in the past, I was very cautious and scared to try that on a Yari Ganna that I spent so long trying to find. After stumbling across a video of Mr. Kurashige himself setting up a Yari Ganna on his YouTube channel, I gained the courage to tap out the blade to my liking. This tool now preforms in an absolutely stunning manner and leaves and incredibly flat, but still textured surface, and will likely replace my block planes as I learn to use the Yari more.

I really recommend this brand of Yari Ganna if you are looking to buy your first one. Thank you Mr. Kurashige
