Self Defeating Product

Fast processing, communication and delivery by Kurashige. Would do business again.

The first feel of use is good for this product. Very rigid, contributing to high flatness, defined shape, and thus sharpness. 400, 600, 800, 1000 share a very similar feel with the chocera from the same manufacturer. 3000 and 6000 feel much more compact and rigid, closer to products from suehiro. The suehiro mg-6000 is the closest in feel.

The first cut is exceptional, quickly settling to a sharpness that is slightly more than the first cut with a honyama.

Although kurashige is a wood working shop, I used this product for kitchen knives.

The appearance of the cut is ugly. The taste is awful. Perhaps slightly uglier and worse tasting than the chocera line. If you have taken a flattening stone or plate to the chocera line, you find that the binder of the stone sticks like glue to the surface of the flattening device. I flattened a chocera 5000 using a 80 grit diamond plate. The 80 grit diamond plate sported a brilliant shimmer before using on the chocera 5000. After flattening the chocera 5000, the 80 grit diamond plate picked up a layer of binder material that would not come off simply with water or rubbing. The appearance of the surface of the 80 grit diamond plate at this point is one of dullness due to the layer of binder from the chocera 5000. This dullness is the appearance of the cut. The taste is similar as in it tastes like it looks, highly contaminated. Most of the binder material comes off with some bar keeper friend and cork but not all.

Assuming the binder material is stuck in the gaps of the abraded metal, to remove it requires some kind of outside agent. If using something like bar keeper friend, which is abrasive itself, you end up undoing the sharpening that got you to this point.

The feel of second use on is that of increasing softness of the binder. With each use, the binder becomes increasingly soft even after using less than five minutes and wiping dry. The higher the grit the softer the binder, so the 1000 is the softest while the 400 remains somewhat rigid. I suppose the 1000 may become unusable eventually for my purposes, similar to the chocera line. I cannot comment on the 3000 and 6000 as I have stored them due to lack of performance.

The manufacturing quality is good. The corners are angled, the surface is flat, and the abrasive material is highly concentrated. The accessory stone works.

Otherwise, this product is expensive and poor performing.

Quite flat and ready to go

A little touch up on a plate of glass with some 220 grit took these stones to uniform. I look forward to years of service from them. One must flatten the backs of their cutting edges to truly work sharp.

Works like a charm

This is the first professional diamond stone that I own and have to say that makes the flattening and/or sharpening process so more simple, compared to other methods.
Thanks for the recommendation.

Naniwa Diamond Stones

These are the fastest cutting stones that I have used (I have trend diamond plates
and many other stones including Naniwa) They are not cheap but worth the price. Yamasuke Kurashige tools delivered to Austria very quickly. I made the mistake of not ordering the stones at at the same time. but I wanted to try one out first. I was so impressed with how they worked I ordered 5 in total. 800 followed by 3000 gave a mirror finish. The Nagura stone delivered seems to be the same grit for all of the stones and to me seemed too coarse for the 6000 stone (maybe naniwa can comment on this) The price from Yamasuke was the best I found on the web. I am very happy with my purchases from this shop and would like to thank them. Andrew Mazurkiewicz
